The Black Phone
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller remains effective despite the lack of a follow-up. Located in 1978 Denver, a series of kidnappings has left the local kids on edge. After Finney is taken by the kidnapper and held captive in a cellar, he fears a fatal end. However, the old telephone in the room repeatedly calls, with spooky callers providing assistance, and the prescient dreams of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. An effective horror. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between spirituality and money, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's delightfully tacky true story of the disgraced TV preacher and her felon spouse. The actor portrays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple commence monetising the people's religious faith. It's a riot of poor styling, overdone appearance and bad faith, however Chastain succeeds to present Tammy Faye in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, Film4
This Espionage Thriller
The current week's another release by the same director presents a spy mystery as precise similar to the collars worn by Fassbender's intelligence officer.
